2010 Festival Program
I'm proud to say we have put together another top flight program of artists covering all our genre range, there's quality shows in folk, contemporary and traditional; Celtic, Blues, old time, bluegrass, world and gypsy, there's some great womens music on offer, and a special feature being the 3 wonderful acts from the Mediterranean hinterland. In particular we're happy to be able to continue our association with our two visiting traditional groups from Greece, both of whom have performed at festivals stretching back to the very first in 1989. It also a pleasure to welcome our new artists every year, there seems no end to the range and quality of first time visitors to our shores and our festival, and I can assure you they will not disappoint. Our Australian roots music scene continues to gain serious memento and I'm sure you will support the excellent range of fine Australian artists we have for this year. Combine that with a really great program of music and dance at the Sydney Road Street Party, where we feature local music almost exclusively, we're in for bumper feast next March.

George Saam'an
I have one sad item to report however and that is that George Saam'an, one of our international guests, a fabulous traditional Arabic musician from Israel, was recently involved in a accident and his subsequent injuries will prevent him from performing for many months and so his Australian tour has been cancelled.

Meanwhile here is some music in January you might like to catch.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the 2010 Brunswick Music Festival.

Yours sincerely

John McAuslan

Nano Stern and the Folkoholics
Nano Stern, who was such a success at the 2009 Brunswick Festival, is touring again in December/January. He forms a madcap duo called Folkoholics with a hot accordion player and crazy puppeteer Matija Solce from Slovenia. The Folkaholics will be supported by Nano Stern in a solo capacity. They're performing one show in Melbourne at The East Brunswick Club on Wednesday 13 January. Here's the Myspace sites, the Folkoholics site has two wonderful video clips (and nothing much else). http:// www.myspace.com/folkoholics - http://www.myspace.com/fernandostern

Brilliant, stunning music coming from Mali in west Africa also in January.
Firstly, Toumani Diabate's Symmetric Orchestra perform at Hamer Hall on 20 January. It's high energy stuff, a big African band driven by the amazing Kora ( african 21 string harp) of Africa's number one virtuoso, Toumani Diabate.

Secondly the beautiful guitar playing of Vieux Farka Toure, the son of the legendary Ali Farka Toure, possibly west Africa's best ever guitar player and that's saying something!. Two shows at Thornbury Theatre, 21/22 January, the music will be superb, and venue is a beauty.
